Meet the Therapy Team: Mike Evenson, DPT

October is Physical Therapy Month, and we’re celebrating the people who help our patients move better, build confidence, and return to the activities they enjoy. Meet Mike Evenson, Physical Therapist and Therapy Department Manager at Weston County Health Services.
Helping His Community, Continuing to Grow
Mike has worked at WCHS for about 14½ years. He chose a career in Physical Therapy because he wanted to keep learning and adapting while making a difference in his community.
“I wanted a career that would allow me to continue to grow and adapt, as well as be able to help people in my community,” Mike shared.
Today, one of his favorite parts of that career is watching patients recognize what they have accomplished.
“I enjoy watching patients realize the benefits from their hard work following a surgery, injury, hospitalization, etc.”
A Moment That Stayed With Him
Early in Mike’s career, a patient recovering from a stroke shared a concern: What would happen if he fell at home and couldn’t get back up?
That concern became a goal they worked toward together. They practiced getting down onto the floor and finding strategies to get back up.
“He was extremely proud of himself when this became easy for him,” Mike recalled.
For that patient, progress meant more than improving strength or movement. It meant feeling more confident about managing a situation that had worried him at home.
More Than You Might Expect
Mike says people are sometimes surprised by the variety of concerns physical therapy can address—including BPPV, a condition that causes episodes of vertigo.

“Some people seem surprised when they learn that physical therapy can treat BPPV or vertigo,” he said.
He also wishes more people would explore therapy earlier when they begin experiencing difficulties. Mike explains that, depending on the condition, seeking therapy sooner may help patients avoid or delay surgery and reduce the amount of rehabilitation they need.
A Team That Steps Up
As Therapy Department Manager, Mike values the teamwork behind the care WCHS provides.
“We have a great crew that works hard and steps up for each other all of the time,” he shared.
That willingness to support one another is one of his favorite parts of working with the WCHS Therapy team.
Outside of WCHS
Outside of work, Mike is a dad to three teenagers. Much of his free time is spent cheering them on and keeping up with their busy sports schedules.
“I love following my kids around with their busy sport schedules,” he said.
This Physical Therapy Month, we thank Mike and the entire WCHS Therapy team for their dedication to helping patients regain independence, recognize their progress, and get back to everyday life.
