Memory Care Activities Aid
Job Summary
As the Memory Care Activities Aide, this position is responsible for assisting and supporting residents and staff in the Long-Term Care Department by planning and implementing meaningful events, activities, and daily support to enhance the physical, social, emotional, spiritual, nutritional, and mental well-being of the residents. This includes assisting with feeding, hydration, and companionship, as well as performing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) duties as needed under the supervision of an LPN/RN.
Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent
Has and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Strong written and oral communication skills
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to access, find, and navigate each department at WCHS.
Position requires moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
Responsibilities
Assists in planning and facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly activities to encourage socialization, relaxation, and recreation.
Provides compassion, encouragement, and conversation to residents throughout the day and during activities.
Assists in implementing activities that accommodate those with memory care needs and other special considerations.
Performs routine CNA duties as needed, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, mobility, and repositioning.
Serves food and fluids during or between meals; offers snacks, supplements, and hydration.
Only assists with feeding residents who do not have complex feeding issues such as swallowing difficulties, recurrent aspiration, or those requiring tube/IV feeding.
Prepares food to help residents self-feed and assists in feeding as necessary.
Records food and fluid intake accurately and reports observations to LPN/RN.
Assists in handling logistics for activities, such as managing inventory and helping train and motivate volunteer staff.
Observes resident participation to assess enjoyment and collect feedback for activity improvement.
Maintains records related to activities, resident interests, incidents, and behaviors.
Reports any physical, mental, emotional, or medical concerns to the appropriate nursing staff.
Provides participants with clean instructions for activities and supports successful engagement.
